Abstract
837,687. Cutting straw &c. GRONBERG, A.B. Nov. 21, 1958 [Nov. 22, 1957 ; Sept. 23, 1958], No. 37499/58. Class 5(1). Straw, green fodder &c. sucked up into a fancontaining casing 8 is cut between rotating knives 14 and interdigitated fixed knives 15. Any straw approaching the knives end-on is turned sideways by the action of a ridge 21 in the casing where the casing opens out to a cylindrical wall part 20. An adjustable angle damper 26 is provided in the stream to direct the straw against the ridge 21. The ridge 21 may be replaced by a more pronounced cutting ridge 33, Fig. 2 (not shown), and guide. In Fig. 3, 43 is the ridge of a shield 24 adjustable by a handle 38. Figs 4 and 5 (not shown) comprise other forms of adjustable shield and ridge. For cutting green fodder the knives 15 are removed to prevent the fodder from being cut too much and so become pasty.
