Abstract

837,182. Discharging hoppers. GREAT LAKES CARBON CORPORATION. April 21, 1958, No. 12552/58. Class 78 (1). The shaft 35 of a rotary valve 24 for controlling the flow of finely divided solids from a hopper is adjustable vertically with respect to the sealing shoe 20 by means exterior to the housing 11 so that a gas-tight seal is obtained not only during the operation of the valve, but also during its adjustment relative to the shoe. The shaft 35 passes through plates 32 which are slidably mounted on the outside of plates 26 and are secured in any position by nuts 34 on threaded studs passed through slots 33. The plates 32 have lugs 28 which are connected to eye-bolts 30 mounted in the upper part of the housing.
