Abstract

A rubbing tool for smoothing glass prior to polishing is comprised of a substantially uniform mixture of carborundum, corundum, or metal grains in a plastic binder material. The hard grains are of a size less than 150 microns and in a proportion of between 8 and 17% by volume, or 20 DEG to 35 DEG by weight of the complete tool. In an example, the tool is formed from a number of compressed sheets produced from an agglomeration of 40 grams of carborundum bonded together in a uniform mixture of 66 grams of polyvinyl chloride and 34 grams of tricresyl phosphate.
