Abstract

836,728. Levels. GREGERSEN, B. A. Nov. 26, 1956 [April 14, 1956; Nov. 1, 1956], No. 36144/56. Class 97(2) . In a level having one or more spirit levels each at least partially enclosed by plastic disposed in a recess in a stock of substantially rectangular section, the plastic has a groove at least partially surrounding the spirit level and forming an air space between the spirit level and the plastic, the groove being formed in cross-section at least partly as an arc of a circle substantially concentric with the circular middle - cross - section of the spirit level. As shown a bubble level 16 is mounted for horizontal testing in a stock 13 by elastic means 9 and is partly enclosed in a groove in a transparent plastic member 7, Figs. '1 and 3, so as to provide an air space. The level 16 is illuminated axially by an electric bulb 10 energized by batteries 3 and a switch 6, and is angularly adjustable by screw 19. To make the illuminated bubble more evident each end of the plastic fuse 7 may be coloured. A bubble level 15 is similarly mounted for vertical testing. Various modifications are described of means for adjusting the level relative to the stock and comprises eccentrics acting on each end of the level or a single eccentric acting on one end or engaging two rods acting at opposite ends of the level.
