Abstract

836,156. Press-button retractive switches. BURGESS PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Feb. 7, 1958 [July 23, 1957], No. 23335/57. Class 38 (5). A snap-action switch comprises a body 1 having a press-button 24 which acts on a hookshaped abutment 21 of an actuator member 22. Member 22 is made of wire bent to form a transverse fulcrum 23 bearing against a stationary member 5 and located between a bend therein and an interior projection 61 of the body 1. A tension spring 16 acts between the hook 21 and a U-shaped contact-carrying member 15, the ends 13 of which are pivoted in grooves in member 5, one each side of a slot through which the spring 16 passes freely. Contacts 19 on member 15 co-operate with fixed contacts 26 and 29 mounted on terminal strips 27 and 30 respectively. The member 5 and strips 27 and 30 are located in recesses in the body 1 and a cover plate 2 (shown mainly broken away) is secured thereto by adhesive, or rivets 3. When button 24 is depressed (which might be by a thermostatic or pressure-sensitive element) contact 19 snaps over to contact 29 and spring 16 is stressed to provide a retractive force, the movement of actuator 22 being limited by an extended surface 62 of projection 61. Several alternative configurations of the wire actuator member 22 are described (Figs. 4 to 15, not shown).
