Abstract
835,921. Discharge of wires from hoppers; rotary conveyers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 14, 1958 [Feb. 21, 1957], No. 5906/57. Class 78 (1). Leads for filament lamps are discharged singly from a bulk supply aligned crosswise in hopper 1 by drum 12, the drum being rotated in direction 22 so that a lead falls into groove 23 therein and is held there by suction admitted at 30 and carried round till it is discharged by compressed air admitted at 31. The air or suction passes to groove 23 through ducts 25, 26. Inlets 30, 31 is carried by plate 27 pressed into contact with drum 12 by spring 32. The leads in the hopper are pressed towards drum 12 by spring- impelled bar 41, and base 2 of the hopper is made retractable to remedy any jamming of the leads. Side walls 6 of the hopper are adjustable on rails 4, 7. In a second embodiment, a roller is employed, the lead being rotated in the nip between drum and roller before falling into the groove 23. Transfer device (Fig. 1).-The leads after being discharged by compressed air from drum 12 fall into channel 53 of arm 37 of spider 36 and is latched therein by tongue 54. The spider 36 rotates so that arm 37, which runs on roller 51 upon cam 39, pivots about point 38 to assume the vertical position shown, whereat the lead is ready to be released by tongue 54 to fall into support 55 of the table of a pinchforming machine.
