Abstract
835,424. Electroluminescent devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 16, 1956], No. 25131/56. Class 39(1). Also in Groups XXXVI, XXXIX and XL(b)] An electric switching or selecting device, Fig. 7, comprises strip electrodes such as 700 to 707, electro - luminescent material 21, a transparent electrode 22 formed on a glass plate 23, a perforated card 30, and photo-conductive strips such as 800 to 805 on another glass plate 27 each provided with leads 28, 29. The device may be illuminated by a number of lamps each with a triangular light-guide, or by plane polarised light falling on a selected one of a number of Kerr cells. In a modification, Fig. 10, the leads 28, 29 are replaced by a transparent electrode layer 34 and electrode strips 35. The photo-conductive material may be cadmium sulphide activated with copper and chlorine. Specification 823,187 is referred to.
