Abstract
834,909. Casting-processes. DEMAG A.G. Oct. 29, 1956 [Oct. 28, 1955]. No. 32904/56. Class 83 (1). In a vacuum casting- process for iron and steel, a vacuum is maintained at the exposed surface of the melt by continued withdrawal by suction of the gases evolved during solidification. The surface may be maintained molten by means such as a heat-insulating or heat-transmitting plate e, which may be of sand, asbestos, poroussintered materials or exothermic materials. Alternatively, or in addition, the suctionapplying means may be introduced into the casting, or the casting may be provided with projections which are, by heating or insulation, maintained molten to serve as outlets for the gases from the interior of the casting. Alternatively, the plate e may have lugs extending into the casting.
