Abstract

834,837. Valves. CALOR GAS (DISTRIBUTING) CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 16251/57. Class 135. In an electro-magnetic safety cut-off valve for gas consuming appliances, upward movement of a manual plunger 5 having a main gas passage 5a and port 6, closes the end of the passage on a valve 13 and lifts the valve away from its seat 14 against the spring 15 whereby gas passes from the inlet 2 to a pilot burner outlet 28, and further lifts an armature 20 into contact with an electromagnet 21, which when energized by a pilot burner thermo-couple holds the armature and valve 13 in its open position so that release of the plunger 5 also allows inlet gas to pass along passage 5a to the main burner outlet 3. De-energization of the electro-magnet allows valve 13 to close both outlets from the inlet.
