Abstract

823,105. Valves. HAYS MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 29, 1957, No. 3154/57. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXV] Hot and cold water inlets 12 are connected to a common outlet 50 under the control of identical valves 21 of rubber or similar material, the outlets having therein a flow-control device 90 as described in Specification 803,247. Each inlet opens into a chamber 20 in which one of the valves 21 is disposed, the chamber being separated from an upper compartment 70 by a diaphragm 25 integral with the valve 21, through which diaphragm is an opening 36 connecting the compartment 70 and outlet 50, the opening being normally closed by a rubber pilot valve 135 with an insert 35 of iron, stainless steel or rubber impregnated with iron particles, which valve 135 is integral with a clamping portion 27 between which and an electromagnet 14 is a plastic sheet 32. Moulded in the electromagnet housing 40 is a coil 42 and an iron core 43, 45, with a gap adjacent the pilot valve 135. The apparatus is arranged so that the two electromagnets 14, 15 are secured by triangular plates 280 and interconnecting bolts 83. In a modification, applicable to gas lines and other low-pressure applications the pilot valve is dispensed with and the electromagnet coil co-operates with a magnetic portion of the diaphragm ; an annular gap is provided in the iron circuit. The invention may be applied to a valve controlling the flow in a single pipe.
