Abstract

Phosphate rock is made assimilable by subjecting it to the decomposing action of an organic material preferably in the respective proportions of 4 and 1, in the presence of heat and moisture using an accelerator comprising lignin, yeast and corn steep liquor, and normal soil as a starter. The organic material may be sewage sludge, manure and normal soil, although ground garbage, cannery waste, cotton seed meal, castor bean pomace, tankage and the like may be used. The fermentation may be performed in a rotating horizontal digester, when hippuric acid may be included in the accelerator composition.
