Abstract

822,318. Water-tube steam boilers. VOR. KAUF, H. March 14, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 8493/57. Class 123(2) A water-tube boiler has a heating surface consisting of two groups 1, 2 of steam generating tubes disposed obliquely across a gas flue extending upwardly from a furnace, the tubes respectively connecting lower vertical distributing headers 3, 4 to upper vertical collecting headers 5, 6 which lead separately into a transverse header 10. The header 10 is connected by pipes 14 to a steam and water drum 15 from the ends of which extend downcomers 9. The headers 3, 4 are respectively connected to transverse manifolds 7, 8 which extend between the downcomers to the lower ends of which are connected longitudinal distribution manifolds 12 for tubes 13 lining the side walls of the furnace and gas flue. The ends of the header 10 are connected by side wall tube collector headers 16 to the drum 15 and by downpipes 18 to the manifolds 12 so that water entering and separating out in the header 10 immediately discharges into the drum and the downpipes and back-flow in the less heated tube group 2 is prevented. This effect is also avoided by connecting the headers 6 into the header 10 at a higher level than the headers 5 and by forming the group 2 with a larger number of tubes than that of group 1. A superheater 17 is disposed between the tube groups. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tube groups 1, 2 are accommodated in a gas down pass 19 leading from a. tube-lined furnace 13, the groups forming the convection section of the boiler.
