Abstract
Poly - b - methacrylyloxyethyldiethylmethyl ammonium methyl sulphate the preparation of which is described is dissolved in a solvent combination exemplified as (1) methanol and butanol with a proportion of water or (2) methanol with methylene chloride or (3) methanol and acetone with water; or is in aqueous solution emulsified with a fluid comprising sodium hexadecenyl sulphate, mixed monocyclic terpene hydrocarbons, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol and n-octanol, to make a composition for application to photographic film for lubrication purposes. Sodium or ammonium or N-substituted ammonium salts of a long-chain alcohol such as octyl and dodecyl sulphate, alkyl aryl sulphonates or their salts or long chain esters of sodium sulphosuccinate may replace the sodium hexadecenyl sulphate in these emulsions. Poly - b - methacryloxyethyl-di - n - propylmethyl or poly - b - methacrylyloxyethyldiisopropylmethyl ammonium methylsulphates and poly - b - methacryloxyethyldipropylethyl or poly-b -methacrylyloxyethyltriethyl ammonium ethyl sulphates may replace the first-mentioned ammonium methyl sulphate.
