[Also in Group VII] An ear-ring comprises an ornamental part 1 having a socket 3, the spigot end of an attachment part 2 being releasably locked in the socket by bending one or more lugs 6 over a shoulder on the spigot. An ear engaging domed cover 10 has a slot for the spigot which is guided by an inclined part 17 integral with the socket and soldered to the ornamental part 1. The part 17 may have an eye for suspending a pendant ornament. The socket and cover may be stamped from sheet-metal blank, Fig. 7, or the socket may be formed by a seamless tube. The tapered lugs 6 may form part of the cover or socket. The spigot may be attached to the ornamental part 1 and the socket to the attachment part 2, the spigot being secured by bending over a lug at the upper end of the socket. Various kinds of attachment parts 2 may be used. The Provisional Specifications describe an ear-ring having an open-fronted socket in which is secured a slide member which slides in the socket, the slide member and socket being attached to the ornamental part and the attachment part, respectively. The socket and slide member may have various forms such as wedge form or the slide member may have outwardly sprung tongues with projections which engage in apertures in the socket. The base of the socket may have an eye for a dropper ornament and be bent to secure the slide member or may have a concave extension for a gem.
