Abstract

820,894. Welding thermoplastic films. OPPENHEIMER CASING CO. (U.K.) Ltd. Sept. 10, 1957 [Sept. 10, 1956], No.27593/56. Class 42 (1). Apparatus for welding thermoplastic films together comprises a film support, provided with a hand support 28, pivotally mounted on arms 2, and a heated blade 6 carried on arms 8 which are connected to arms 2 by a stud engaging a slot so that as an operator depresses the support 28 the blade moves to engage the films. The blade is carried by studs 17 mounted resiliently by springs 18 on cross-bar 7 and a barrier cloth 20 is carried resiliently by studs 24. Springs 13 limit the downward movement of the support 28. In a modification, Fig. 3, the support 28 has a vertically disposed anvil 32 and the arms 8 carry only a barrier cloth 36, the heated blade 31 being situated below the support to slide horizontally. The support is depressed and, after the barrier cloth has moved to hold the films against the anvil, the blade is operated, by a rod 51 engaging rollers 54, to engage the films. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the support for the films is slotted to enable a fixed heated blade to pass through to engage an anvil mounted in a similar manner to the heated blade in Fig. 1.
