Abstract

820,379. Variable speed gear. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Aug. 8, 1957 [Aug. 8, 1956], No. 24256/56. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXVIII] An automatic gramophone of the centrespindle magazine type in which the motorspindle carries a stepped pulley e, f, g, and the drive is transmitted to the inside rim h of the turntable i by an idler wheel a, is characterized by the use of a single lever k to move the idler wheel a both axially and laterally relative to the stepped pulley e, f, g. The idler wheel a is supported by an arm b which is free to pivot and to move axially on the pin c. The lever k is supported at t in the fulcrum slot s of the bracket q and is free to rotate in both horizontal and vertical planes, it has a slot I in one end to engage an opening in the lever b and at the other end are two pins p<SP>1</SP> and m<SP>1</SP> which co-operate with a peripheral cam surface and an axial cam surface respectively of the cam block M. A shallow groove W is provided to resiliently hold the control knob N in a position in which the idler wheel is disengaged from the stepped pulley.
