Abstract

827,175. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. KOROBUK Ltd., S. Nov. 26, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 24484/55. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A band brake for a spool drum in a magnetic tape or wire recorder has one end of its band anchored, the other end being adjustable radially to the drum and urged into brake-engaged position by resilient means the force of which may be overcome or removed by releasing means. As shown, supply and take-up spools driven by electric motors 2, 3 have brake drums 4, 5 engageable by flexible bands 6, 7 (e.g. of leather faced with cork) extending from anchorages 8, 9 (which may be adjustable) to levers 10, 11 urged by springs 17, 18 (e.g. attached to adjustable anchorages) to fulcrum on levers 12, 13 clamped by a bar 16 in their adjusted positions about pivots 14, 15; the brakes are released by a T-shaped member 19 moved, e.g. by a lever 23, so that adjustable screws 21, 22 engage the levers 10, 11.
