Abstract

826,752. Electric discharge tubes. FERNSCH G.m.b.H. May 25, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 16236/56. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] A discharge tube, Fig. 3, for use in a system for comparing two images (see Group XL(b)) has two photo-cathodes 14 and 15 for receiving the two images and associated image-converter sections 12 and 13 which operate onto a common semiconducting target 22 with adjacent mesh output electrode 26. Section 13 is provided with deflection coil 24 and 25 to permit movement of one electron image with respect to the other and is also arranged so that the focus coil 21 may be controlled to vary the image magnification. The tube is operated so that one electron image neutralizes the charge pattern due to the other when the images are identical and superimposed. A modification, Fig. 4, has only a single image converter section, one image being formed on the photo-cathode 21 and the other image being formed directly on the reverse side of a photo-conductive target 36.
