Abstract
Non-ferrous metal having an oxidation-reduction potential between cadmium and silver, and including these metals, is produced in powder form by reacting an aqueous solution or slurry containing a compound of at least one of the metals with a reducing gas at elevated temperature and pressure, there being added to the solution an addition agent, in amount not less than 0.01 grams per litre, selected from acrylic acid, polyacrylic acid, polymers, copolymers, derivatives and salts of polyacrylic acid and compounds containing them, lignin and derivatives of lignin. The metals produced may be silver, copper, cobalt or nickel. The reduction of sulphates or carbonates is referred to.
