Abstract

826,273. Printing on electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 8, 1957 [Feb. 13, 1956], No. 4398/57. Class 100(2) Coloured and separated identification rings are printed on an insulated electric conductor by passing the conductor 1 successively over two or more synchronously rotated printing wheels, such as 8, 9, so that each wheel applies part of each of said colour rings. The conductor 1 may have code groups I, II &c. consisting of colour rings 2-5 separated by clear zones 6, 7. Where two printing wheels are used, each applies approximately half of each of the colour rings, each wheel having a peripheral groove of semi-circular cross-section. If two further printing wheels are used, these are mounted in a plane at right angles to the plane in which the wheels 8, 9 are mounted, and each wheel applies about a quarter of each of the colour rings. The printing may be effected by rotogravure.
