Abstract
L-Glutamic acid is prepared by fermenting with Bacillus circulans or Bacillus megatherium a culture medium comprising a source of nitrogen (e.g. ammonium salts, urea, casein enzymatic-hydrolysate, bran solubles, peptone and yeast extract), a source of sugar and mineral salts, under aerobic conditions at a temperature of from 27 DEG to 33 DEG C., a pH value of from 5.0 to 7.5 and a Kd value (i.e. rate of absorption of oxygen in gram molecules per minute per ml. of culture medium) of from 1.0 to 5.0 X 10-6.
