Abstract
824,084. Sewing; sewing machines. UNITED STATES BLIND STITCH MACHINE CORPORATION. May 8, 1956, No. 14297/56. Class 112 The formation of felling stitches S in a blind-stitch sewing machine, between the edge E, Fig. 7, of a comparatively wide upper layer 75 and the comparatively narrow right hand portions of a lower layer 74, or between sleeve lining 81, Fig. 1 (not shown), and the inwardly turned-in portion 82 (Fig. 1, not shown), of a sleeve cuff disposed to the right of the lining, is facilitated by positioning the work-bender R immediately to the right of edge E and by arranging the needle N to swing from right to left in the work-piercing stroke, whereby the greater part of the work is disposed away from the machine, only the single layer 74 and a small part of layer 75, or the portion 82 and a small part of the lining 81 resting on the work support. Layer 75 is doubled in at edge E to form an intermediate layer 75a. The machine comprises a base B to which is pivoted at Ha a work support H, and which supports an arm 1 to which is fixed a frame F carrying the drives for the needle, looper and work feed. The curved needle N is carried by an arm 11 fixed to one end of a shaft 12 journalled in frame F. An arm 60 at the other end of shaft 12 is pivoted on a pin 70 projecting from a ball 69 journalled within an arm 64 extending from the straps 62, 62a of an eccentric 37 carried by the end of a driving shaft 36 in arm 1, to effect oscillation of the needle. The work support H carries a pair of work-supporting ribs 16, and also the work-bending rib R which is fixed to an oscillating shaft 47, rib R projecting upwardly through a plate 14 fixed to frame F. A finger 48 pivoted to plate 14 at 50, is biased downwards by a spring 52 into engagement with the bight formed by rib R. The looper L is formed with a pair of fingers 23, 24 and is secured to one end of a rod 27, the other end of which is fixed to a yoke 31. The latter is pivoted on a pin 34 carried by a sleeve 35 journalled on a pin 36 projecting obliquely from the outer face of eccentric 37. A ball 27a, formed on rod 27, is journalled in an arm 28 which in turn is journalled on a pin 30. The latter is screwed eccentrically into a cylindrical bushing 40 which is turntable in frame F and is fixable in adjusted position by a grub screw. The arrangement provides for moving rod 27 longitudinally between the extreme positions shown in full and broken lines respectively in Fig. 3, while also turning rod 27 about its axis, whereby the looper is moved towards and away from the needle and also across the line of stitching, the degree of the latter movement being regulated by the position of bushing 40. A feeding foot 22, which is disposed in the slot 21, is fixed to one end of a feed bar 42, the other end of which is provided with a strap 42a embracing the eccentric 37. Bar 42 is pivoted intermediately at 45 to a disc 44 which is in turn pivoted at 43 to frame F. Specification 824,085 is referred to.
