813,132. Nuclear fuel elements. THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd., A.E.I.J. July 11, 1957 [July 31, 1956], No. 23664/56. Class 39(4). A nuclear fuel element comprises an outer sheath of metallic uranium and a core of a uranium compound which does not undergo an a-# microscopic structure change when the reactor is so operating that the temperature of the sheath is just below that at which the uranium undergoes such a change. The compound may be a carbide or an oxide of uranium, for example UC or UO 2 .
