Class 97(1) In a semi-rimless spectacle frame each lens is held in its semi-rim by a flexible thread or wire accommodated in a groove in the upper surface of the rim and a peripheral groove of the lens. As shown in Fig. 1, the frame comprises semi-rims 1 joined by a bridge 11, each semi-rim having a lower groove 2, in which fits a bevelled edge of the lens, and an upper groove 3, accommodating a nylon thread 4 which passes round a peripheral groove in the lens. The temporal end of each semi-rim may alternatively be secured to a brow bar. In order to allow variation of the tension of thread or wire the two ends of a piece 4 may be secured as at 25 and 27 in Fig. 15 to tubular members 26, 29 which are screw connected at 30. The ends 25, 27 may be soldered to the members 26, 29 or, as in Fig. 15, end 27 may pass through holes 28 in the member 29 and be screw clamped therein at 30<SP>1</SP>. A single tubular member may be used, the two ends 25, 27 passing through diametral holes therein and being screw clamped. In the modified form of Fig. 10, the underside of each semi-rim is flat and is provided with holes through which a thread 16 passes to form cushions 22 against which the flat upper surface of the lens is pressed by the thread or wire 4.
