812,696. Speed-responsive brakes. BOLSEY, J. Dec. 2, 1955 [June 17, 1955], No. 34543/55. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXVI] A centrifugal governor, particularly for a cinematograph camera, comprises a plate 60 notched at 62 to provide a pair of outer members 61 which are fitted with weights 65 so that, on rotation of the plate, they swing outwards and apply integral brake portions 64 to the cylindrical surface 57 of a recess 56 or aperture in part of the camera structure. The plate is preferably made of a resilient plastic, such as nylon. Modifications are described in which a cup-shaped member has a pair of slits in its wall and base so that the walls can move outwardly to rub on the flange of a stationary annular member surrounding the cup and in which a dished plate has a number of weighted sections formed by radial slits so that it tends to flatten out and increase the area of frictional engagement between the centre of the plate and a stationary collar surrounding the governor shaft. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, a number of weighted arms 72<SP>1</SP> are notched at 731 so that they can fly upwardly and apply brake shoe portions 74 to a friction plate 75 which is adjustable axially along the governor shaft by a lever 76.
