812,593. Ironing-machines. VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAGET CALOR. Jan. 29, 1957, No. 3181/57. Class 138 (2). An ironing-machine comprises an ironing-bed 3, a rotatable ironing-roll 1 comprising a perforated shell 4 and permeable fabric pad 6 and a heating shoe 10 the cylindrical surface 11 of which yieldably engages the pad 6 and has openings through which heated air is supplied to and through the pad and the perforations in the shell under the influence of evacuating means communicating with the interior of the shell. As shown in Fig. 2, the heating shoe 10 is mounted rotatably on pins 20 at each end of the shoe, the pins 20 being supported on levers 21 which are in turn rotatably mounted on fixed supports by pins 22. As shown in Fig. 3, the heating shoe comprises a steam chamber defined by the heating surface 11 and front wall 13 with inlet 16 for steam and drain 18 for condensed water. An air conduit 25 passes through the steam chamber from inlet 26 and is connected to a manifold 27 from which branches 28 communicate with longitudinal grooves 29 in the heating surface 11. Under the influence of suction within the ironing shell air is drawn through the conduit, manifold and branches, being heated by the steam in the chamber, and gives up heat to the ironing-pad on passing therethrough, supplementing the heating effect of direct contact between the heating shoe and the pad.
