Abstract
812,156. Door latches. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 33546/55. Class 44. In a door latch mechanism the latch bolt is coupled by linkage means to an actuating push plate member constrained to move in a plane in or parallel to the plane of the door by means of guides on or secured to an escutcheon plate secured to the door, the push plate being moved to rotate the latch bolt to disengage it from the striker plate. The latch bolt 17 with head 18 is rotatably mounted on a plate 14 and is secured to an actuating lever 19, the plate 14 being secured to the door frame by lugs 15 and strengthened by ribs 16. A link 20 is pivoted to lever 19 at one end and carries a collar 21 clamped to a push rod 22 at the other end, the rod 22 being secured to a push plate 23 incorporating a barrel lock 24, and a part 25 which slides in guides 26 in the escutcheon plate 27, a finger plate 29 being secured to push plate 23 with the barrel lock 24 projecting through an aperture 30. Depression of the finger plate 29 and push plate 23 against the action of a spring 32 to rotate the lever 19 rotates the bolt 17 to enable it to be withdrawn from engagement with a pair of spring pressed members 12 and 13 of the striker plate 11; in closing the door the latch functions as a slam latch.
