[Also in Group XXH] On moving the hand operating lever 3 clockwise as seen in Fig. 1, a link 6 moves an arm 8 projecting from a cam 9 and rotates the cam anticlockwise, overcoming the pull of a spring 11, until its camming edge 22 meets a transverse bar 17 joining pillars 15, 16, Fig. 2, which are slideable in guideways 13, 14. At their upper ends the pillars 15, 16 are coupled by cross members 20, 21 to which the press tool is attached. The work is held on a work-table 25. When the operating lever 3 is in its initial position, Fig. 1, the position of the work-table is such that the work is not underneath the press tool 2 and, during the first part of the movement of the lever, a lug 26 on the cam 9, by engaging behind a finger 27 of a block below the work-table, advances the table to the position where the work is below the tool, the lug 26 then slipping below the finger 27. The action of the camming edge 22 on the bar 17, as the clockwise movement of the lever 3 continues, lowers the pressing tool on to the work. In the first part of the reverse movement of the lever 3 the pressure of the camming edge 22 on the bar 17 is removed, a spring 18 then raising the press tool ; in the second part of the movement the lug 26 engages behind a finger 28 and the work-table is retracted. The descent of the press tool is restricted by a stop 29, on the pillar 16, which meets the surface of the worktable until, when the table moves into position, a recess 30 comes beneath the stop. The worktable may be slid out for servicing by unscrewing a stop pin 31. Alternatively the cam 9 may be linked to a pedal or to a compressed air ram.
