Abstract

810,977. Actuators. WESTERN MANUFACTURING (READING) Ltd. June 1, 1956 [June 1,1955], No. 15783/55. Class 78 (3). An actuator comprises a motor unit M, a gear-box G and an actuating unit P which are interchangeable with other units of different capacities to produce an actuator having the required power-output characteristics. The unit M is provided with a boss 28 which mates with a recess 29 in box G and so accurately locates pinion 26 in the gear train. A similar recess is provided to seat boss 31 on the unit P so interengaging a dog 30 with a complementary driven member (not shown) in the box G. The electrical connections to the motor and limit switches are effected by pins 21, 23, engageable with sockets 22 on a detachable plug receiving unit E provided with a rotatable head portion 12 which enables the position of socket 16 to be adjusted. The unit P is shown as a screw-and-nut mechanism aligned with the axis of pinion 26, but according to various modifications (not shown) it can lie alongside the gear-box G either parallel with or at an acute or right angle to said box. In a further modification (also not shown) the screw- and-nut mechanism is replaced by an angularly movable, radically extending arm.
