Abstract
810,469. Granulating molten fertilizer &c. RUHRCHEMIE, A.G. April 10, 1956 [April 26, 1955], No. 10862/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group I] Molten material, e.g. a fertilizer, is granulated by allowing drops to fall from a pipe 3 onto a rotating inclined surface 1, the temperature of which may be controlled by gas heaters 4, and the surface of which is dusted with dust from the product or kieselguhr or limestone dust. Encrustations are prevented from forming on the surface 1 by a scraper 13. In a modification (see Fig. 2, not shown) the temperature of the surface may be controlled by a fluid system. Alternatively, electric resistance, high frequency or infra-red heating may be used. Mixtures of several materials may be granulated, e.g. molten ammonium nitrate and limestone or chalk dust. The size of the granules may be controlled by varying the temperature of the surface.
