Abstract
810,422. Ingot moulds. DOITTAU PRODUITS METALLURGIE. May 11, 1955 [Oct. 21, 1954], No. 13623/55. Class 83 (1). In a method of casting ingots, the upper part of the mould 1 is lined with exothermic material 8 which is separated from the molten metal by a layer of inert material 7. The exothermic material is separated from the feed-head frame 6 by an air-gap 9. The materials 7, 8 are formed in slabs. The exothermic material may increase in thickness from top to bottom, and may be contained in recesses in a sand slab 7 or wholly within the slab, the combustion gases escaping through vents 16, Fig. 3. In the latter cases, the exothermic material extends only between the limits 10, 11 of the molten and the solidified ingot. Specification 808,839 is referred to.
