Abstract

810,243. Gear guards for cycles. SUN CYCLE & FITTINGS CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1957 [Oct. 9, 1956], No. 30695/56. Class 136(1) Means for protecting the chain-shifting mechanism of a Derailleur change speed gear, comprise a rigid guard 11 which is adapted to be fixed by one end upon the spindle of the rear road wheel of a bicycle and, when so fixed, to pass over the supporting arm 6 of the chain-shifting sprocket 10 of the gear so that a portion of the guard is disposed on the opposite side of the arm 6 to the road-wheel. The guard is cranked and comprises a shorter end portion 11a which is adapted to be fixed upon the rear wheel spindle, and is spaced from but is parallel to a longer and opposite end portion 11b and is united to the latter by a crank 11c. A triangular web 11d is provided on the guard. The short end portion 11a of the guard is secured by a bolt 13 to a track nut 12 which is adapted to clamp the spindle in a supporting fork of the bicycle frame.
