Abstract
810,200. Injection moulding machines. WINDSOR Ltd., R. H. Aug. 24, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 15069/55. Class 87(a). In an injection moulding machine, thermoplastic material, e.g. polystyrene copolymers, cellulose acetates, methyl methacrylates or the rigid vinyls, is forced under pressure from a horizontal injection chamber 13 into a vertical transfer chamber 10 : from there it is forced under greater pressure into a mould 23 by a ram 14, which is operated hydraulically. Hydraulic means for counterbalancing the reaction pressure of the ram are provided. The material is forced from the nozzle 3a of a plasticizing unit 3 along the chamber 13, which at each end carries ball and socket connections and through the lateral inlet orifice 12 into the chamber 10. On the injection stroke of the ram, the reaction pressure is absorbed by hydraulic pressure applied to pistons 20a and 21a in subsidiary cylinders 20, 21 and the transfer chamber opening 10a is thereby maintained in sealing engagement with the mould orifice 22. The transfer injection unit passes through a central aperture 26 in a fixed mould plate 9 for centre moulding, but is slidable on rails 6a (not shown) and the chamber is vertically displaceable, so that the apparatus may be adapted for off-centre moulding using aperture 25.
