Abstract

819,959. Spray carburetters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 25, 1958 [April 8, 1957], No. 9535/58. Class 7(3) In a fuel supply system having a metering valve 20, Fig. 1, controlled by a diaphragm 36 subject to the suction in a venturi 48, Fig. 2, in the intake pipe 12. this suction is reinforced at idling and small throttle openings by the suction developed at points 58, 52, downstream of and adjacent the throttle valve, this latter suction being modified by a temperature responsive device 64 in the intake pipe. The diaphragm space 34 is connected by a pipe 40 to a chamber 41 connected to the venturi throat and by a pipe 42 to a chamber 50 connected to the tapping points 52, 58. The device 64 comprises a bimetallic strip which opens an air bleed 60 into the chamber 50 as the intake air temperature rises to reduce the suction in chamber 50 and hence reduce the fuel supply. The fuel flows from the metering device 20 to a distributing chamber 24 connected to nozzles 28 in the individual intake passages.
