Abstract
819,711. Electric tests. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES Ltd. April 25, 1957 [March 13, 1956; Oct. 18,1956], Nos. 7827/56 and 31732/56. Addition to 795,189. Class 37. The flexible capacitor claimed in the parent Specification for measuring the contents of a liquid container and which consists of flat ribbons on a dielectric support is fastened to the wall of a container for a dielectric liquid or the wall of the container 5 of dielectric material and forms the support for the ribbon elements. The ribbons may be of beryllium copper and may be secured by a suitable adhesive material on the inner side of the wall of an aircraft fuel tank made of plastics material, e.g. " Terylene " or " Hycar " (Registered Trade Marks). The ribbons are covered by a layer of liquid repellent lacquer. An electrical screen is provided on the interior wall of the tank over the area carrying the ribbons. The electrode ribbons may be applied to the wall by printing, spraying, or vaporizing metal on the wall in the desired pattern, by applying a transfer or preformed strip to the wall, or by bonding a foil to the tank and etching it by scoring the lacquer coating with parallel lines. The wall and electrodes may be formed by wearing a cloth from metallic filament. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the flexible strip 11 is provided, at each side, with teeth 18 which co-operate with further teeth on the tank wall to form zip-fasteners which hold the capacitor in place.
