Abstract
819,693. Windows. LIPP, W., and MANN, H. Aug. 29, 1957 [June 8, 1957], No. 27256/57. Class 20(3) A window frame is constructed from four hollow bars 1, 1a, 2, 2a, which are made of extruded synthetic plastic material of any desired colour, have grooves 4, and are mitred at their ends, the bars 1, 1a, 2 first being connected at the joints by L-section right angle wooden inserts 5 to form a U-shaped structure to receive, in the grooves 4, a pane of glass 3. The mitred ends of the bar 2a, fitted with inserts 5 are then engaged with the upper ends of the bars 1, 1a. A packing 6 is accommodated in a semi-circular groove 6 around the outside of the frame. The limbs of the inserts 5 are sufficiently long to reinforce those parts of the bars to which it is desired fit fastenings, such as hinges. A piece of wood can be inserted in the appropriate position in the respective stile to facilitate the fitting of a window catch, alternatively, a catch can be fastened to a separate small plate of synthetic plastic material welded in a recess in the stile. The joints between the bars may be filled in with varnish, and the inserts 5 may be either glued in position, or fastened by screws. In a modification each bar is provided with two grooves 4 to form a double glazed frame.
