Class 44 A flexible shackle padlock comprises a cup-shaped casing 6 having a lock core housing 10 centrally mounted therein; a spool latch plate 7 rotatably fitted within the casing and having a hub 8 which fits over the housing 10; a key operated lock core 11 provided with retractable dogs 21 and rotatably mounted within the housing 10 and attached at its inner end to the hub 8 of the latch plate 7; a cable 9 wound on the hub 8 and passing through an orifice 38 in the casing 6; a slotted head 30 at the end of the cable fitting within a slot 28, 29; locking projections 34, 35, 36, 37 spaced on the periphery of the latch plate for covering the slot 28, 29 in the casing; and a base plate 16 fitting over the hub 8 of the latch-plate; whereby rotation of the lock core 11 by its key 20 will rotate the latch-plate and adjust the length of the cable outside the casing and open or close the slot 28, 29 therein. As described, with the key 20 inserted in the lock core 11 the dogs 21 are retracted and the core may be rotated together with the spool-latch plate 7 thus varying the length of the cable 9 which, when adjusted to a suitable length, encircles the object to be secured, and is then locked in position by passing the terminal cap 33 of the head 30 through the slot 29 in the casing face thereby enabling the neck 32 of the head 30 to slide along the slot 28 in the lateral wall of the casing 6. The cap may pass through slot 29 only when none of the projections 34-37 is aligned with the slot 29, and is secured within the casing by rotating the lock-core 11 and plate 7 to align one of the projections 34-37 with the slot 29, in which position the dogs 21 are aligned with one of the slots 23-26 in the lock core housing 10, and the key may be withdrawn causing the dogs to engage the appropriate slot 23-26 thus securing the cable at both ends.
