Abstract
818,209. Gas heaters; tubular heat exchange elements. STRICO GESELLSCHAFT FUR METALLURGIE UND VARMETECHNIK Oct. 29, 1957, No. 33731/57. Classes 64(1) and 64(3) A gas heater comprises at least two concentric tube banks 3a, 3b disposed in a combustion chamber the tubes of the outermost bank 3a being provided externally with extended surfaces such as fins (see Fig. 3), which serve to prevent radiant heating of the combustion chamber wall 14. In the form described the combustion products are given a rotary motion downwardly around the axis of the combustion chamber, the gases then flowing upwardly through the centre of the combustion chamber to an outlet. Two banks of tubes are preferred and these may be interconnected in series by U-bends or headers, the gas to be heated flowing first through the tubes of the outer bank 3a and then through the tubes of the inner bank 3b. Dust and ash separated from the combustion products due to the rotary motion thereof are removed at the lower hoppershaped end of the combustion chamber. Air or other gas to be heated may be preheated before passing to the tubes 3a in channels (not shown) provided in the combustion chamber wall 14.
