Class 29 [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a thermoelectric refrigerating unit or heat pump for a refrigerator, the applied voltage is varied in accordance with the temperature difference between the hot and cold junctions, the junctions within the refrigerator being maintained at constant temperature by a thermal switch and the applied voltage being varied in accordance with ambient temperature. The detector of the ambient temperature also actuates a current reversing switch so that when the ambient temperature is above or below the desired refrigerator temperature, the unit acts as a refrigerating system or a heat pump respectively.
