Abstract
817,035. Electromagnetic switches. ROTAX Ltd. July 22, 1957 [April 23, 1956], No. 12311/56. Class 38 (5). The spring-biased contact-operating plunger a is acted upon by two coils e, f connected in series across a supply so that when a control switch k is closed, the current through the coils is not sufficient to operate the switch, but the coil h of a separate relay is also energized to close its contacts g and short-circuit the high-resistance coil f, so that the switch is closed by the coil e. A mechanical coupling (not shown) is arranged, when the contacts c, d are closed, to open an auxiliary switch i against its spring bias, so that the coil h is de-energized and the contacts g open, allowing the windings e and f in series to maintain the switch closed. If the closing voltage is insufficient to operate the relay h, g the current through coils e, f is insufficient to overheat them.
