Abstract

816,890. Severing by grinding ; sawing. SMITH, O. D. April 10, 1958 [April 11, 1957], No. 11844/57. Classes 60 and 145. A cutting-off machine comprises an abrasive wheel or circular saw 2 for severing long lengths of bar or tube stock and is mounted to be rotatable about a substantially vertical axis 9 passing through or near the point of engagement between the wheel and work. The machine has the abrasive wheel or circular saw mounted with its motor 3 on an arm pivotable to bring the wheel into engagement with the work held in a V-block 4 by foot-operated claws 5 and is mounted on a rectangular base 7 having rollers 12, 13 engaging arcuate tracks 10, 11 on a plate 8 secured to the floor. The machine can thus be pivoted about the axis 9 and clamped in position by means of a lug 15 and screw 16, the arrangement obviating the necessity of a large area of floor space in which to swing the work about the machine when it is desired to cut the work at an angle.
