Abstract
Potassium sulphate is precipitated by the interaction of potassium chloride and a primary, secondary, or tertiary aliphatic amine sulphate containing 1-4 carbon atoms per hydrocarbon radical in aqueous solution. Sulphates of dimethylamine, di- and tri-ethylamine, iso-propylamine, and n-butylamine are specified. Stoichiometric proportions, or an excess of one or other of the reactants, may be employed. The temperature of reaction may be 0-55 DEG C. 100 parts of solid potassium chloride may be added to an aqueous solution of the amine sulphate containing 50-350 parts of water, the amine sulphate being in the stoichiometric amount or up to 10 per cent more than the stoichiometric amount.
