Class 44 [Also in Group XXX] Projections 5, Fig. 2, from the surface 1 of a suction gripping device permit a sealing ring 2 forming the periphery of the suction cavity to be arranged in a shape conforming closely to that of the object to be lifted. The ring 2 is preferably of foam rubber and the projections 5 are preferably pins which taper towards the surface 1 and have annular surfaces 9, Fig. 5, interrupted by grooves 8. The plate 1 may be curved to conform with the surface of the article to be engaged. The pins may be detachable.
