Abstract

815,047. Thermocouples. MAX-PLANCKINSTITUT FUR EISENFORSCHUNG. Sept. 10, 1957, No. 28544/57. Class 37. A thermocouple for high-temperature measurement consists of one element of chromic oxide and the other of a mixture of chromic oxide and an oxide of a metal of different valency state, such as ferrous oxide, zirconium oxide or titanium oxide. Alternatively, the first element may consist of a mixture of chromic oxide and an oxide or sulphide of a metal of lower valency, and the other of a similar mixture except that the metal has a higher valency state. The Figure shows a thermocouple construction comprising a tube 1 of chromic oxide, and a rod 4 of a mixture of zirconium oxide and chromic oxide.
