Abstract

814,998. Endless belt conveyers. CABLE BELT Ltd. Aug. 26, 1957 [Aug. 27, 1956], No. 26155/56. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer of the kind in which the belt 13 is supported adjacent its edges by driving cables 31, 32 and is connected to them by means which are disengaged when the belt is led away from the cables, the cables are driven by a pair of coaxial surge wheels 15 placed beyond the end drum 11 around which the belt passes, the belt is supported adjacent the drum by rollers 51 which lift it away from the cables, and the cables are deflected outwardly from their belt supporting path by guide pulleys 47, 48 rotating about vertical axes and are restored to parallelism by similar pulleys 56 before they engage the surge wheels. A belt tensioning carriage 21, Fig. 2, supports the drums 22, 23 around which the belt passes at the other end of the conveyer. The wheels 24 of this carriage run on rails 25 and the carriage is connected by a cable 26 to a suspended weight 29. The cables 31, 32 pass through the carriage 21 and around tension pulleys 33, each of which is mounted on a wheeled carriage 34. A pulley 35 mounted on each carriage engages a bight of a cable 36 which is connected at one end to a suspended weight 38 and at the other to the drum of a hand winch 37. The cables on return from the pulleys 33 to the carriage pass over guide pulleys 62, 63 mounted with their axes vertical on a rocking beam 64. They then converge towards similar pairs of pulleys 66, 67 which, in conjunction with pulleys 68, direct them into parallelism. Rollers 71 act in a similar manner to the rollers 51 of Figs. 5 and 6.
