Abstract
814,973. Coating bakers' and confectioners' goods. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. March 8, 1957 [March 8, 1956], No. 7248/56. Class 28 (1). Articles of food, e.g. fish sticks 11, which have just been treated with liquid or paste, e.g. batter, are coated with bread-crumbs or the like by passing the articles, under a shower of crumbs from a feed hopper 16, while being carried on a wire mesh belt 14 beneath which is a collecting hopper 29 from which the excess crumbs are conveyed by a screw conveyer 32 in the bottom of the hopper through an outlet to a trough 36 from which a screw conveyer 41 in a tube 39 carries them to a discharge shoot disposed over the feed hopper 16. Extending over the width of the base of hopper 16 there is an outlet 17 into which a tapered deflector member 18 projects to divide the falling crumbs into two showers and can also close the outlet. Crumbs that pass through belt 14 are caught on a guiding plate 24 which extends close below the upper run of the belt. A plate 26 extends below the lower run of belt 14 and extends round its forward supporting roll 27 so as to hold the crumbs in the belt. Plate 26 may have holes 28 to let some crumbs fall through into collecting hopper 29 whose base breaks into a tube 31 which contains the screw conveyer 32. Specification 810,559 is referred to.
