Abstract

A process for producing stable chemical preparations including at least two components which are incompatible in common solution consists in successively freezing separate solutions comprising said components within a common vessel to form a stratified frozen mass and thereafter freeze-drying said frozen mass. In one example of the process, a flask of 5 c.c. capacity was filled with 3 c.c. of an aqueous solution of 20 mg. of glycine and 2 mg. of gelatin per c.c. and placed upon a metal plate cooled to about -85 DEG C. by a mixture of carbon dioxide and acetone so as to freeze the solution. Thereupon, 1 c.c. of a similar solution, together with 10 mg. of a sodium salt of 7-acetamido-4-(sulphamyl-phenylazo) - 1 - naphthol - 3,6 - disulphonic acid, a strong red dyestuff is added to the flask. Upon freezing of the added solution, the whole is freeze-dried at an initial temperature of -40 DEG C. and an absolute pressure of 0.01 mm. of Hg, the temperature being gradually raised to 40 DEG C. The resulting product has a lower white layer and an upper cherry red layer. In another example, the above process was repeated with 2 c.c. of an aqueous solution of 45 mg. of sodium bicarbonate and 40 mg. of cane sugar per c.c. as a lower layer, and 2 c.c. of a solution of 25 mg. of citric acid and 40 mg. of cane sugar. Following freeze-drying there was obtained a finely-structured mass consisting of two distinct layers.
