Abstract

801,369. Coin-freed telephone apparatus. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M..ERICSSON. Nov. 17, 1955 [Nov. 17, 1954; March 4, 1955], No. 33000/55. Class 27 [Also in Group XXXIX] In an automatic telephone system (see Group XXXIX) prepayment for a call is made using coin boxes which can receive two or three different kinds of coin and signal the denomination of the coin or coins deposited to an exchange. In Fig. 1 two sepa.rat.e coin shoots EA and EB receive coins A and B of different denominations and while a call is being set up from subscriber's apparatus T a coin A or B, or both, is held in suspense by pawls PA1, PB1. When the called subscriber replies current is sent from the exchange over the line ab to energize a magnet M to withdraw pawls PA1, PB1, and insert pawls PA2, PB2, which catch falling coins and hold them in a position to operate contacts ka, kb. Contacts ka, kb register the coin denomination at the exchange after which M is de-energized, pawls PA2, PB2 withdraw, and the coin or coins pass to a collecting box. In Fig. 2 a single shoot is shown the end of which is tapered so that each set of contacts ka, kb, or kc are operated by a coin of corresponding diameter which rests against a stop As, Bs, or Cs. The bottom edge of the shoot is closed by a pivoted arm P2 under control of a magnet M which, by means of a link h, also withdraws a pawl P1 holding a coin in suspence. When plate P2 closes the shoot it also operates contacts m1, m2 to disconnect subscriber's apparatus T from the fine ab. When plate P2 falls back it drops the coin into a box L.
