Abstract

801,264. Utilizing wave energy. WEBB, G. W., and WEBB, H. M. March 11, 1955, No. 35311/57. Divided out of 801,263. Class 69 (1). A pump unit for draining boat bilges comprises a flexible bellows 14 of variable volume having a rigid plate 27 on its underside secured by an adjustable rod 30 to a non-buoyant waterimpelled member 34 consisting of plates 35, 36, mutually at right angles, the plate being movable in any direction and being rotatable, so that variations in the bellows volume operate to draw water through filter 25 from the bilge of boat 12 and discharge it through pipe 24. The universal mounting securing plate 27 to the top of the bellows unit includes a spring under tension to counterbalance the weight of the moving parts. Specifications 734,294 and 801,263 describing pendulum- and float-operated pumps respectively are referred to.
