Abstract

800,937. Smoking bacon &c. LINNELL, T. E., LINNELL, P. R., LINNELL, R. E., and LINNELL, T. R. April 12, 1956 [April 14, 1955; Sept. 22, 1955], Nos. 10731/55 and 27049/55. Class 49. The surface of an edible commodity 14, e.g. bacon, is protected from deterioration, e.g. during smoking, by a plate 10 pulled into intimate contact therewith by coil-springs 13, which bear on the external surface of the plate, and integral hook members 12 which are passed through holes 11 in the plate and anchored in the commodity. A protective film 16, e.g. of paper, is interposed between plate and commodity. The plate can be of metal, glass, porcelain or similar ceramic, or plastic, and flanges 15, which may be separated as shown, or continuous, can be made to penetrate the commodity to provide a better seal. According to the first Provisional Specification the plate can be held in position by coil springs anchored to flanges or marginal lugs of the plate and strained by hooks inserted in the bacon.
